Multimeters

Multimeters or multitesters ( also known as volt/ohm meters ) are used by Audio technicians and are very handy for repairs and troubleshooting proaudio gears and cables. Multimeters can test voltages, capacitance and resistance using two prongs usually color coded one red (positive) and the other black ( negative ) . Some multimeters has detachable prongs or test leads, be careful not to plug them in the wrong terminals and get confused as this can be very dangerous when testing voltages. However, when testing “unpowered cables” for continuity, it does not matter which one touches the cable's terminals.

There are 2 kinds of multimeters:

1.Analog Multimeters: Analog multimeters uses a dynamic needle pointer and a printed scale to determine the values tested. The accuracy of the readings depends on the users ability to read and calculate scales.

2.Digital Multimeters: The major difference between analog and digital is that, digital multimeters uses LCD display instead of an analog needle and printed scale. Digital multimeters also has chips ( computer chips ) inside them that automatically and accurately calculates the values making them very easy and convinient to use.
